L'Oreal Paris Elvive Triple Resist Hair Masque Review

L'Oreal Paris Elvive Triple Resist Hair Masque comes in a huge black tub with a muted electric pink twist-on lid. This mask has a nice fruity scent which isn't at all overpowering after the wash, and it detangles hair right away.

9th Karachi International Book Fair & More Book Haul

Hey guys, it's been a while since we have talked, and I went to the 9th KIBF yesterday, so here's a little book haul. ;) It's still on but will end by 10PM today.

The Body Shop Chocomania Body Butter Review

The Body Shop is known for its versatile organic scents. If you are a chocoholic then The Body Shop Chocomania Body Butter is your heaven but in case you're not, the scent is strong enough to make you gag. I personally like the sweet cocoa scent of this body butter and enjoy slathering it on everyday after a hot shower. The tub that I have claims that it keeps skin hydrated for up to 48 hours, but I'll be honest with you, I've never had it on for that long as I shower everyday, however, I've had it on for more than 24 hours for sure and even though my skin never felt dry or stretchy after that duration, still on taking a closer notice, I felt I could surely go over with more moisturiser so I don't think it'll stay put for that long, though it may vary for different skin types because I do have dryness prone skin which drinks up just about everything, and I'm always big on moisturising. Nonetheless, it's good enough for a day. You just have to moisturise once a day on average which I think is great in this weather when, I don't know about you, but I feel cold-blooded and way too lazy to even move. :P

Labello Milk & Honey Lip Balm Review

Labello is a century old brand of lip balms and the word 'labello' means beautiful lips. The brand is owned by a German company, Beiersdorf, which also owns Nivea and therefore, you may find Labello lip products being sold under the names of Nivea, Liposan and Nivea Lip Care.

Color Studio Professional Knock Out Marker - Carbon Black Precision Eye Marker Review

Usually people start out with eye markers before getting the real deal, that is the liquid liner but in my case, it was quite the opposite. A dear friend of mine, gifted me this Color Studio Professional Knock Out Marker for my birthday earlier this year, and I must say that I've been hooked to it ever since then.

I'm an eye-makeup person, I'd do my eyes any day rather than focusing on anything else but I like to keep the overall look rather simple for daily makeup routine and that means I do skip eyeshadows often. Surprisingly though, lining my lids was not that much of a favourite part, and that's not because I didn't like how it looked but because the liquid liner felt a bit too heavy on my lids for everyday wear while the pencil liner tends to smudge or isn't that fun to drag along the lid and the gel liner needs some extra time plus more skill.

It's My Blog's 1st Anniversary!

It’s been a whole year, and seriously it’s unbelievable as time just flew by! If you have stuck around for long enough, you probably are aware that I didn’t start off particularly as a beauty blogger. In fact, if you read my side bar, you can tell I’m not just a beauty blogger. It all started last year when I was sitting at home, preparing for aptitudes, got a little break from studies, started reading Sarah Dessen’s novel Just Listen, made a long lists of inspirational quotes from the book, texted all my bookworm buds and finally decided to share it with the world. It clicked to me then why not start a blog? Therefore,my first ever blog post was 'Just Listen - Sarah Dessen'.

On Way To Russia: Transits in Dubai & China

Today's post is actually a lifestyle post on a small trip around a few places in Asia. However, this wasn't my trip, instead my brother's, nonetheless I thought you guys might like to see and know a little more about those places if you like travelling. As there is quite a lot to cover, I'm posting the whole trip in a small three part series, so today's post is all about their transits and the next one would be about their time in Russia and the final part would be on the souveniers.

This year Russian Engineering Union (REU) invited students from School of Chemical & Materials Engineering (SCME) of the National University of Science & Technology (NUST), Pakistan, along with students of renowned universities from around the world to attend the Engineer's of the Future Conference held at Irkutsk region, Russia. My brother being a student of SCME at NUST was the part of the delegation consisting of four students, Qassam Sarmad, Moiz Butt, Nadia Naseer and Maryam Adhami, along with a professor, Sir Nadeem Ehsan.

My Birthday Haul!

This post is coming in super late as my birthday was back in June, but I couldn't really celebrate at that time due to exams and therefore kept on receiving gifts all through June and July. In fact, the latest one came in August from my best friend forever, who was looking to buy me something that I would actually like, and I must say it was totally worth the wait! ♥

This was an early birthday gift from my parents, and if you follow me on twitter, you might remember how crazy I was going for Lumia back in April and May! Absolutely love it and have a yellow cover too! :)

Etude House BB Bright Cream Review

I was quite fascinated by the Garnier BB cream initially and had thought about getting my hands on it, but after reading such mixed reviews, I just got double minded and couldn’t decide. I asked around, and one of Etude’s BB cream (not this one) came up as a suggestion. Knowing that Etude House is a Korean brand and Asian BB creams are known to be the best around, I read a few reviews and was ready to give it a try as it seemed quite promising.

Eid: Outfit and Yummy Delights

Hi Butterflies!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend! :)

Eid is now officially over, but it still only is the fourth day of eid for many of us, and luckily enough I have another week off before second semester at uni kicks in. ;) I'm so relieved as I ain't ready to go back yet! :D
There are just so many posts that I have to write, and I'm so excited as I have a lot to share with you guys!

However, coming to today's post, here is a glimpse of my main Eid outfit, though I didn't wear it all the time due to the hot weather, but I've got 4-5 weddings to attend this August starting today and I'll be wearing it in one of the events too along with loads of other evening outfits hanging around in my closet.

Mini Makeup Haul

Sorry for the lack of appearance this week but tomorrow's Eid here and there was a lot of running around to do for preparation. Anyways, here are a few things that I picked up recently from supermarket and wanted to share with you lot. Two of the things here are off my Summer Wishlist! <3

Saturday Nail Tutorial: Chundri Inspired Nail Art

Hi guys, just a quick notice, my university would resume soon and I'll get busier as the semester proceeds so I might not be able to post nail tutorials every Saturday but I'll try to blog about any other nail related thing on Saturdays like nail polish reviews so in that case it'll be called 'Saturday Nail Talk' instead of 'Saturday Nail Tutorial' but you'll get both of them from time to time!

Saturday Nail Tutorial: Chundri Inspired Nail Art

Moving on, today's nail tutorial is inspired by 'chundri' which is basically a tie and dye pattern on eastern fabrics. I actually had a different tutorial planned for today, but I thought it might be too early for that so I had to switch it all at the last moment. Anyways, cool are we? Lets get started.

Apricot Scrubs Showdown!

I was to write a review on St. Ives Apricot Scrub, but considering that it has already been reviewed multiple times, I decided to do a comparison between my previous scrub which was Freeman Facial Creamy Scrub in Apricot flavour and my current scrub which is St.Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub.

The Body Shop Most Wanted Wishlist!

Recently I bought some oils and beeswax to use in bath and make some balms. I was also looking for tea-tree oil but couldn’t find it so I turned to my fellow bloggers for help and they came up with some suggestions. The most common answer was The Body Shop.

Now, I’ve been to The Body Shop quite a few times but I always left empty handed because I just felt so overwhelmed by the variety that I couldn’t decide what I should buy. So, I was surfing (read: drooling on) The Body Shop’s website the other day in order to check out their tea-tree oil and I ended up making a wishlist of what other things I wanted from there. I read the product descriptions and googled up whatever I really thought I would love, for reviews and here is what I have put together.

Saturday Nail Tutorial: Hearts 3 Ways

Yesterday my phone was dead and I thought I won't be able to blog for days now but surprisingly the issue was fixed today and here is another nail tutorial for you butterflies.

All About Sunscreen and Garnier Ambre Solaire Face Protection Cream SPF50+ Review

Before we jump into today's review lets talk about sun protection and all that scientific jargon to understand better what exactly should we look for in a sunscreen.

There is this thing that the purpose of sunscreens is mainly to block a portion of UV rays and you still do tan by the production of melanin which is a pigment that your skin produces in order to protect you from those harmful rays which can cause sunburns, skin cancer and premature ageing. Well, I did some research and found out that some sunscreens can make you tan faster than the others and those usually are the ones with lower SPF. While it also depends on your skin type, duration and intensity of exposure, where you live, etc. If you have darker skin tone, you are more likely to tan easily but not burn easily and vice versa.

Types of UV Rays and Their Effects?

There are two categories of UV light that are considered in terms of sunscreen. UVA and UVB. UVA has more long-term damaging effects on the skin, like premature ageing. While UVB causes sunburn and can lead to skin cancer eventually.

What is SPF?

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and it is believed to somewhat work like this; if somebody who burns easily in 10 minutes, wears a sunscreen with SPF 10, would be protected for up to 100 minutes. However, further researches have shown that it does not mean that SPF 30 gives double the protection than that offered by SPF 15 and all sunscreens must be re-applied every 2-3 hours. It is commonly said by dermatologists, especially here in Pakistan (near the equator) that anything lesser than SPF 30 isn't really worth it. Nonetheless, SPF 15 is still considered to be the least anybody should wear when heading out in the sun.

Does higher SPF provide better protection?

Well, it is true that the higher the SPF, the better the protection but roughly speaking, SPF 15 blocks 93% of the rays while SPF 30 blocks up to 97% and SPF 50 up to 98% and after SPF 50 it doesn't make much of a difference. Also, do keep in mind that higher SPF doesn't mean that you can stay in sun for longer.

Truck driver William McElligott's face is a graphic illustration of the damaging effects of the sun.
The left-hand side of the truck driver's face was exposed to the sun for 28 years, the other shaded in the cab.
In a nutshell

Sunblocks provide the best of protection from sun exposure and SPF 30 is probably the most ideal one for all skin types. People should apply sunblocks not only to their face and neck but also to ears and behind ears, on arms and on any other part of your body that would be exposed to prevent any long term harmful effects of UV Rays.

Now, coming to Garnier Ambre Solaire, I bought this affordable sunscreen a few months back as I ran out of my previous one and the reason that I particularly picked this was because it stated on the box that it is for 'Sun intolerant skin that burns easily'.

Well, I did try to wear it as regularly as I could during my semester and it seemed to work just fine though I did not re-apply it frequently as directed on the box for we sat in classrooms most of the time. Quite recently though, during the end of June and in the beginning of  July, I was usually out practising for my driver's license, in the blazing sun and I made sure to apply this all over generously. I must say that I noticed its effects better during this time. Starting with the protection, well, yes, I did not suffer any sunburns and only got minimal sun tans. What I really liked about this sunblock was the fact that it claimed to be non-greasy and it is infact non-greasy and hydrating though I feel safer to use my moisturiser before it anyway. As for the white marks, I'd say you can see a cast initially when you apply a generous amount which you should but it eventually sinks in so then there's no white cast. It did not break me out or irritated my skin so it is also safe to say that it suitable for sensitive skin. I did initially question it's high SPF as it was stereotyped to be bad but after my research I can say that the SPF 50+ that it has is rather good.

However, I felt tiny beads of sweat forming on my face when I had this on probably because sunblocks block pore or something in order to provide protection? They weren't visible but I don't recall it too well from my past sunblock experiences to have noticed it as much as I did with this but then I wasn't a blogger back then to note things that I now do. Therefore, it is probably not ideal to be worn under makeup, most sunblocks aren't, or you could do with a lesser amount of this. One thing that really put me off about this sunblock is its smell which can be sensed even after application. It took a lot of patience and time for me to get used to it but it is awful! Like seriously, I haven't smelt a sunblock this bad and this is something that sadly would keep me from repurchasing it.

Disclaimer: Whatever I have mentioned in this post regarding sun exposures and sunscreens is what I have gathered from my research and the knowledge I have acquired till date. I do not claim it to be 100% correct as with all scientific stuff, you never know what researches might prove to be right or wrong 10 years from now.

Saturday Nail Tutorial: Loud Bows

Hi Lovely ladies!

Saturday Nail Tutorial: Loud Bows

Today we're doing loud neon pink bows against a pale background colour and all you need are your nail polishes and a tooth pick! :)

Saturday Nail Tutorial: Loud Bows

Step 1: Paint your nails baby blue (or any light pastel shade would do!)
Step 2: Roughly draw two little triangles meeting at the vertices as shown in the photo with a neon pink nail polish to make a small bow.
Step 3: Draw as many little bows as you wish to and fill them in. (optional): Fill the empty spaces on your nails with neon pink dots.
Step 4: Draw a big bow on your ring finger and outline it with a black nail polish for detailing if you wish to (it would look better without it in my opinion).
Step 5: Seal in your nail art with a top coat.

Girls I have decided to share some quick nail tips & tricks in any of my nail related posts today onwards. It might be helpful to beginners and may prove to be handy to any of us. Diana of London Blush & Glow - Princess Pink 02 Review & Swatches

Diana of London Blush and Glow in shade Princess Pink 02 is a beautiful deep rose shade baked blush with fine gold shimmer in it which reflects light. The glitter particles are not chunky but could have been finer though it still doesn't make one look like a disco ball, so no worries. The shade Princess Pink 02 is ideal for warm skin tones. The packaging is not very sturdy and I had once dropped it which made me lose a lot of product as the slight dome on it broke T_T but the case itself did not and since it contained 12g of product I haven't hit pan on mine even after owning it for a couple of years.

While, the blush itself is fragrance free (skin friendly), very pigmented, smooth, silky and easy to apply though not very easy to blend if you pick up more product. With this blush you'll only need the tiniest of amount or you can end up looking a baboon's bottom. :P

On the whole, I love this blush for the healthy radiant glow that it provides and for it's wear time which Diana of London claims to be is over 6 hours and I do agree that I have never felt the need of touch-ups. This is more suitable for party looks than everyday makeup unless you decide to ditch au naturel and it looks more beautiful with time as it sets in. The only down side for me is that it has crazy fall-outs.

Sorry about the scary vein!

My Rating:

I got mine at Naheed but unfortunately there is very little information available regarding this product on internet and as I bought it a few years back, I don't remember at all how much I bought it for.

Diana of London Blush & Glow range has a total of 9 shades.
