Shiver Trilogy (Wolfs of Mercy Falls) By Maggie Stiefvater

After reading twilight and a bunch of other vampire-werewolf stories, people probably aren't really up for reading any of these anymore. I had bought Shiver Trilogy by Maggie Stiefvater in 7th Karachi International Book Fair (KIBF), back at the end of 2011 along with many others, but due to a tough academic year I didn't get time to read much at all and by the end of 2012 this was the only one left from my previous bookfair raids. However, after my aptitudes and all when I finally had some time for myself, I begin to read this and trust me, it's not just another werewolf lovestory.

Shiver Trilogy (Wolfs of Mercy Falls) By Maggie Stiefvater

As mentioned above, Shiver is a trilogy. The first part in the series is Shiver itself, then there is Linger and the final sequel is Forever. This story is unpredictable and twisted, which kept me engrossed in reading for hours. I really love the way, the author has described simple things around us beautifully and I have picked a few favourite quotes from the series to share here. You can see most of these are Sam's (the lead character) lines and this proves that he was my favourite character in the book.

"As the hours crept by, the afternoon sunlight bleached all the books on the shelves to pale, gilded versions of themselves and warmed the paper and ink inside the covers so that the smell of unread words hung in the air."
-Sam Roth

Maggie Stiefvater (Shiver; Wolfs of Mercy Falls #01)

“I won't let this be my good-bye. I've folded one thousand paper crane memories of me and Grace, and I've made my wish.
I will find a cure. And then I will find Grace.”
-Sam Roth

Maggie Stiefvater (Linger; Wolfs of Mercy Falls #02)

"No good deed goes unpunished."
-Cole St. Clair's Mom

"Then I begin to play. Variations on a G major chord, the most wonderful chord known to mankind. Infinitely happy. I could live inside a G major chord, with Grace, if she was willing. Everything uncomplicated and good about me could be summed up by that chord."
-Sam Roth

"Life was a cake that looked good on the bakery shelf but turned to sawdust and salt when I ate it."
-Cole St. Clair

Maggie Stiefvater (Forever; Wolfs of Mercy Falls #03)

Shiver Trilogy (Wolfs of Mercy Falls) By Maggie Stiefvater

I kept posting these on my facebook and coming back to that presumptious, criticizing, prejudiced crowd, I had actually been texting these line to such book loving friends of mine and when they agreed that it was indeed praise-worthy, I used to tell them it's actually from a werewolf lovestory and they were like: 'aw, shucks man! I wish you never told me that.'

Also, I would thank Maggie for getting me hooked to Rainer Maria Rilke's poetry, who was a German poet during the period of 1894-1925.

I would recommend you to read this trilogy if you are a fan of fiction.

Someday Summary #01

Hello guys, I hope you're all doing well.

This is my first Someday Summary and note that I won't be doing it everyday, rather only when I have something that I want to share with you guys from that particular day or even the past week, just like a Week In Photos post I did a few months earlier!

Today is Saturday (obviously!) and we had Eid-Milad-un-Nabi (that is Holy Prophet (pbuh) Birthday) celebrated yesterday so it was off, that made this weekend a long one luckily! Even though government had announced Thursday off too but my university wasn't closed. Fortunately I have a short timetable for Thursdays and I get off early, so relaxing at home after a much hyped about, tiring week at university, I finally got some time to rest.

I'll be utilizing this weekend to prepare blog posts and running some personal errands before I get extremely busy with bio-medical engineering. University only started this Monday, and I already have Applied Physics surprise test due next week so you can imagine how tough things might get in future. Not to mention, we were ragged on our first day but as long as it was all just a bit of light-hearted fun, I'm cool with that, though I hope they give us a welcome party too now! Anyways, I have got studying to do but my brother came this Tuesday on his vacations from Islamabad and I have to cook a lot to treat both of us, therefore I might be baking pizza tonight if I get cheese!

Moving on, look what I got today from an Uncle of mine who recently returned from a trip to SA! :)
I'm so excited about the Victoria's Secret Dream Angels Desire Set! :D

Dairy Milk Mint Crisp, Top Deck & Victoria's Secret Dream Angels Desire
I hope you all have a lovely weekend! :) xo

Bio Glow Almond and Honey Face Scrub Review

Hey Butterflies!

I know I haven't blogged in past four days but this week, my university started and now I'll eventually get busier than busy so sorry if I go missing for a while from time to time! Nonetheless, I'll miss you all and try my best to do posts whenever I get time! :)

Bio Glow Almond and Honey Face Scrub

Now, if you have been following my blog for some time, you might know that I recently went for vacations up north to see a cousin of mine. Well, while I was there, my cousin gave me this scrub that she had gotten from Dubai. I have been using it for a month now and today I'll be reviewing it.

Bio Glow Almond and Honey Face Scrub

Bio Glow Almond and Honey Face Scrub has a very creamy but non-greasy formula which moisturizes skin deeply. As you can see in the picture that this scrub is not very gritty, the grains are chunky and not too dense, therefore, it is gentle and suitable to be used on face. Even though I prefer fine grained gritty scrubs just for the sake of personal satisfaction of being scrubbed well, I can undoubtedly say that most people will love its formula. This scrub is infused with rosemary, honey, almond oil and natural plant extracts which does wonders to skin by softening it and the glow you get after using this is noticeably visible.

Bio Glow Almond and Honey Face Scrub

This will last me a long while as it comes in a huge jar which a plus since I don't know where to look for Bio Glow scrubs here.

Yays:
1. A gentle face scrub.
2. Deeply moisturizing.
3. A suitable winter scrub.
4. Softens skin.
5. Non-greasy formula.
6. Gives a visible glow.
7. Constitutes of healthy natural extracts.
8. Comes in a huge jar.

Nays:
1. You prefer a gritty and fine grained formula.
2. You don't know where to look for it.

ARTEL by Bina Ali

ARTEL by Bina Ali is a blend of art and fine art. Iis a crafts brand that has worked hard to give a new meaning to terra-cotta. They have an exquisite range of furniture, artifacts, hand painted wooden vessels, jewelry, and customized give-aways. They work with vivacious colours, making each piece a beauty in its self.

I came across ARTEL a year ago, on facebook and fell in love with their vibrantly coloured terra-cotta jewelry at first sight. One of my bestfriend's birthday was around the corner at that time and I decided to gift her something from ARTEL. As I was placing the order online, I just couldn't resist and ordered a pair of earring and two pendants for myself as well. My experience with ARTEL has been a wonderful one. Since, I was short of time, as my bestfriend's birthday was just a couple of days away, Bina Ali, the owner, herself came to give me my purchases as shipping would have taken a bit longer. To date I have been loving whatever I have bought from ARTEL. Though I am really scared of dropping and breaking these dainty pieces, the compliments that I get for these are indeed overwhelming.

Here is what I bought for my bestfriend:

These did not come in a set, I just tried to match them up.
P.S: This picture doesn't do any justice to the actual colour.

Here is what I bought for myself:

I feel glad to see ARTEL expanding, and last month I decided that this really is blog-worthy so I messaged Bina  Ali on facebook, first to ask if she was interested in a short interview and then with a brief set of questions to get to know more about Artel so that I could share it with you guys. A huge thank you to Bina who even with her busy schedule did revert back very kindly.

1. What is the approach of ARTEL?
The key-word to ARTEL products is hand-made.The approach is modern fusion with traditional arts which engages the appeal of a larger crowd. Each product is painstakingly hand crafted to the utmost perfection that can be attained. The colors are both vibrant and muted to cater to all clients. The patterns are elaborated.

2. Tell us about the team behind ARTEL.
Our creative team comprise of boys and girls with little or no educational back ground from the lower class. We present them with training for which we pay them a monthly income and then hire them. The point is to give these very youngsters a skill and a respectable means of livelihood. The wooden products are designed by us and executed by handicapped carpenters and the local crafts men of yester years.

3. What other projects related to ARTEL have you initiated?
ARTEL by BINA ALI has also initiated a highly exclusive range ‘ARTEL GOLD’ which carries exclusively designed furniture which is in solid wood and the art work on the tile in lay is par excellence. The pottery art work is moreover exclusively detailed with tones and shades that are incredible.

Furthermore, ARTEL by BINA ALI now has a sister company by the name of Thumb Print by Bina Ali.Thumb Print is a brand which show cases signature fashion line pieces . The aspirations to communicate brought around the evolution of language. Thumb Print too is a language I have created to communicate with those who identify with it.

Guest Post: The Zahir

Hello all, today's post is a special one as I have invited a very dear friend of mine over to do a guest post on a fine piece of work by Paulo Coelho, called The Zahir.

So without further ado, dear butterflies please welcome Affy, an aspiring blogger as our guest today! :)
_________________________________________________________________________________

Hey guys! Affy here taking over the butterfly blog for today! ^_^
Being a music, food and writing junkie (err, what?) myself, I hope I'll keep u beautiful readers entertained :)

Guest Post: The Zahir

I know this is coming in pretty late but it absolutely HAD to be done! Paulo Coelho; who hasn't heard of him? From his critically acclaimed 'The Alchemist' to 'The Witch of Portobello' and all the fantasy and mysticism in between, Coelho knows exactly what his readers love. :)
The book under consideration in this post, The Zahir, is unlike anything I've ever read before. Coelho personally regards it as a work of fiction in spite of the fact that it seems nearly autobiographical.
The title of the book may come as a surprise to many. The context, however, dates back to the Arabic language where Zahir is the word for 'obvious'. The Zahir, as with all his other work, comes with an underlying message: breaking free from the rituals and baseless dogmas of society and promoting originality. The fusion of spirituality and determination lead the narrator (also the main character) to eternal happiness.
Revolving around a series of inter-related events, 'The Zahir' is based on the search of the main character's wife, Esther, a war correspondent who goes missing with her suspected lover (as stated in the first two paragraphs of the book).
As with every book, Coelho cunningly makes his point by throwing in a quote here and there , aided usually by some extra information which makes the whole story a puzzle gradually being solved. Even though the language tends to get intense quite often, the theme makes up for it all!
Apart from the basic, 'obvious' (pun intended :p ) plot of the story where the quest for a missing wife becomes more of a challenge than a mystery, some kind of a secret message is noticed, oftentimes purposely kindled and proves thought-provoking. Grim realities prevalent in the world today are highlighted nearly throughout the book with plausible proposals of solutions but only noticed if read with the concentration that the book deserves.
My verdict? No less than a 4.5 out of 5. A must read life-changer! :)

2012 Favourite T.V Drama!

2012 Favourite Drama? Could it be any other than Ishq-e-Mamnoon?!
I don't think so.

Aşk-ı Memnu

Ishq-e-Mamnoon (Urdu-Roman-English) or Aşk-ı Memnu (as it is written in Turkish) is actually a Turkish drama based on a novel of 1900 AD written by Halit Ziya Uşaklıgil.
When translated to English, the name of this drama is "Forbidden Love".
Aşk-ı Memnu was originally aired in Turkey from 2008 to 2010 in two seasons with a total of 79 episodes, each of 60 minutes. However, this was telecasted in Pakistan in 2012 on the channel Urdu 1 and has become a major hit by initially attracting the audience with the grandeur shown and later of course by the job well done by all the actors.

Now, I am not at all a television junkie BUT this drama was great enough to keep my eyes glued to my telly. As the name suggests, this is an heart-breaking tale of a rich widower, called Adnan, who married a beautiful young girl , named Bihter, and that's where the drama kicks into action. The story mainly revolves around these two in addition to Nihal, who was Adnan's stubborn teenage daughter madly in love with Behlul. Behlul, who was Adnan's distant nephew but was brought up by him after Behlul's parents had passed away when he was just a young lad. He grew up to be a rich playboy, who later on struggled to chose between love to Bihter, or loyalty to his Uncle. Beshir, another important character who was a driver at their household. He deteriorated his own health while keeping a dark secret. And Mrs. Firdevs, Bihter's mom, who plays the vamp.

Aşk-ı Memnu is a classic story and hats off to the whole Aşk-ı Memnu team. They all did such a remarkable job. The story itself is very unpredictable, jammed with twists and turns, and a very sad ending. I couldn't spot any glitches in the plot and not even for once I felt that it was far-fetched, or the actors were actually acting! It was all just so real. The transformation of Bihter's sweet face exuding the purity of her heart at the beginning to her bitter expressions reflecting the selfish evil that had taken over later on is commendable. No matter how many times I go back and forth from early episodes to later ones, I seriously can feel Beren Saat's (actress who played Bihter) face changing from innocent to evil. It's not like that it was just the script that changed our opinions about her character, she herself made a massive acting effort. And not just her, I was just giving an example, rather everybody else as well made it equally huge. The Urdu 1 team also deserves a round of applause for bringing Aşk-ı Memnu to Pakistan and for a flawless translation and dubbing.

Now, there are controversies emerging from our own local media pointing at Aşk-ı Memnu as a threat to our own television industry since it has broken records of Pakistani hit serials like Humsafar and Ladli. They refer to it as foreign content which should be banned. Firstly, we already do watch Bollywood and Hollywood content. FYI, that's foreign too. Secondly, if your concern is that it shouldn't be running on our own channels, than that's crap too. Why does our media fear at all? If they produce good enough scripts, people will surely watch them too! Thirdly, there are moral questions being raised about the story of Aşk-ı Memnu as well but why don't they get it that its content is not promoting anything morally wrong and hence it has a fairly sad ending with a strongly conveyed message.

As long as I get to watch good stuff, I'll always appreciate.

A major hit like Aşk-ı Memnu, which has been already translated into 59 languages, is definitely a must watch. It created a magic that will linger on forever.
I'd love to get my hands on the original novel or a translated version.

The music of Aşk-ı Memnu runs chills down my spine! You can listen to it on Aşk-ı Memnu's Official Website.

With this, we come to an end of my 2012 Favourites series that I posted all week. Hope you all enjoyed reading! :) x

Once again, a very Happy New Year to all of you! x

2012 Fragrance Favourites!

As promised, my 2012 Favourites series goes on.
This is the fourth part of my 2012 Favourites! :)

Fragrance adds to a woman's elegance and wearing feminine scents is my favourite part of dressing up!
Following are the perfumes and body sprays that I have been wearing religiously in 2012.

Perfume Favourites

2012 Fragrance Favourites; perfumes/colognes

1. Ana Umri
I got this perfume from Oman and its a product of Al Diwaniya Enterprises. This is a heavy floral scent which stays on for hours, in fact even after laundry! Have been totally loving this in 2012 and I'm sure would continue to in 2013 as well! ♥

2.& 3.  Mary-Kate & Ashley Coast To Coast Perfumes:
The orange one is NYC (Soho Chic) while the transparent one is LA (Malibu Style). A friend gifted these to me a couple of years ago as a birthday gift but I started using them only recently. I love LA more than NYC. Initially, I disliked NYC because I found it to be a bit too sweet and candy like but now I've begin to like it. It's that kind of scent which you'd either totally love or hate! However, I fell in love with LA right away, which is a very delicate floral scent, therefore I have used it lesser than NYC to make sure it lasts longer! :P

4. Tommy Girl:
This cologne actually belonged to my cousin and I had used it when she was staying over at my house last February. Now that I went to visit her this winter, she very generously let me and my other cousin to rummage through her dresser and take whatever we liked. She's actually like an older sister to us. ^_^
Anyways, I spotted this and even though she had used most of it I still wanted what little has left of it so you can imagine how great it smells! Very energetic and modern.

2012 Fragrance Favourites; perfumes/colognes

Body Spray Favourites

2012 Fragrance Favourites; body spray/deodorant

1. Nike Extreme
This one has been my major go to deodorant all year!

2. 8x4 Sweet Secret
Got this girly scent from Oman as well.

3. Impulse City Collection; New York
On the bottle it's mentioned that its fragrance is a blend of Apple, Red Fruits and Jasmine notes. Absolutely love this one the most of them three and I've been looking out for more of it to stock my stash up but unfortunately never spotted this particular scent by Impulse again! :(

Hope you enjoyed this post! :) x

2012 Hair Care Favourites!

It's 2013 and my 1st week's blog schedule seems jammed! Whoa! Except for I missed out yesterday! -_-
To make up for missing out 2013's first Wednesday, I'm writing two posts for you peeps today (including this one)! Yay!
Check out  my 2012 Skin Favourites that I posted today only! ;)

To check out this week's schedule, please refer to my "Upcoming" page.

Hair Care Favourites:

2012 Hair Care Favourites!

1. Dove Hair Fall Rescue Shampoo
2. Dove Hair Fall Rescue Conditioner
3. Pantene Pro-V Anti Hair Fall Shampoo
4. Pantene Pro-V Smooth & Shine Anti-Frizz Serum
5. Suave Professionals Invigorating Clean Shampoo (Rosemary + Mint)

Before any of you wails at me after seeing these protein shampoos, let me make it clear to you that I know excessive protein is not good for hair and I have been alternating with mild baby shampoos to keep my tresses at their best.

To review these briefly, I'd say I did not see any noticeable decrease in my hair fall after using Dove Hair Fall Rescue but it certainly helped in keeping my hair straight, (I already have fine straight locks and after using this shampoo I don't even feel the need of straightening my wave-prone hair ends), as I don't like to use heat on my hair at all. Though this shampoo does weigh my fine hair down somewhat but I preferably use this a day before any special event and I rub my fingers through my hair to volumize it.

Moving on, Pantene Pro-V does give desirable results when it comes to putting an end to miserable hair fall and it's anti-frizz serum is good for styling and keeping hair detangled.

Coming to Suave, I had used their Strawberry shampoo once which I personally didn't fancy much but I really like their kids shampoos. Yes, I do use baby shampoos because they are mild and not loaded with chemicals!! Anyways, at first I didn't like this invigorating shampoo much as I felt it even stripped my natural oils leaving my scalp dry. However, I now believe that it acts as a good clarifying shampoo. I don't belong to the everyday styling lot so I initially thought that I didn't really need it but I use it once in 2 weeks to wash away any residues of my protein shampoos. I always oil my hair before using any of my shampoos and normally rinse twice but with Suave, I only need to rinse once! That's how good it is and rinsing once doesn't leave my scalp dry.

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year! :)

May this year brings us a lot of good lucks and may God bless us all! ^_^

I don't really have any new year resolutions except for having much more fun than the previous year!! :D

As you guys know, I had been vacationing past month so I didn't really had any time to post 2012 favourites or hits and misses and now I shall skip it because I still am having a hectic day-to-day routine because my university is about to start.

However, I have picked a Food Blog Favourite of 2012 :)

Bird On A Cake is such a lovely blog! I keep on drooling all day over the sweet stuff Robin makes!
If you have a sweet-tooth like I do, you must check out this blog :) x

Bird On A Cake

I couldn't pick any beauty blog favourites because there are just so many of you whom I love reading! ^_^

Best wishes to all of you for 2013! x
