Monthly Makeup Favourites: May and June Edition
Monthly Favourites: May and June Edition

I skipped listing my favourites last month because I hardly tried anything new amidst my finals. Besides, I also wanted to talk about some of the things in detail before mentioning them in my favourites post. Let's jump right in.

1. Jordana Ms. Jordana Color Effects Eyeshadow*

Summer means pop of colours and to keep it minimal yet happening this Ms. Jordana eyeshadow is perfection. I like it because it is so easy to wear on its own without going in with ten other transition shades. If you would like to see this gorgeous iridescent purple eyeshadow in action, check out my Easy Makeup For Brown Eyes post.

My Rainy Day Makeup Essentials

Wednesday, 29 June 2016

I hate rainy days. Did I break your heart? I am sorry. I have a long list of reasons. As a child I never really got why my father would avoid rain, it was so much fun to splash water after all. Now that I am an adult, I can relate. A city like Karachi is still not prepared for rain because it greatly affects our lives. The sewage is underdeveloped and the power outage is inevitable. It turns out to be so much more of a hassle at the end of the day rather than being a bliss. So rain for me is only fun as long as I can be carefree like I was when I was younger.

Confession time, last night I had a little bit of that moment when I was out with my A'levels friends after so long. I hadn't given much thought to rain while putting on my makeup earlier that evening and in fact I was trying to keep it minimal because after becoming a blogger and watching 90 million YouTube videos, I feel like I am the only one who really wears makeup in my circle. Luckily, my product picks turned out to be wise.

11 Foundations For Summer

11 Summer Foundations That Beauty Bloggers Trust

I frequently get asked for foundation suggestions and most of my readers are often concerned about how to keep their face from melting in the summers. I have a dry/combination skin and based on firsthand experience I can mostly be helpful to a certain extent on my own. So, this season I decided to team up with my favourite beauty bloggers from all across Pakistan to bring you a variety of suggestions for different skin types based on their reliable verdict.

Since I myself am more of a dry dragon I love dewy foundations like L'Oreal True Match Lumi all year round. You would only be able to relate if you have dry skin yourself that how much we actually appreciate greasiness (cringe). However for summers, to keep my makeup intact for hours in the humidity of Karachi, I like to use Masarrat Misbah Silk Foundation and this has become an obvious recommendation for the past year in the local beauty community. The shade range has been specifically designed to cater Pakistani skin tones and the formula itself is a bit mattifying. I find the coverage to be heavy and once on, your base won't budge. You can read my complete review for more details and swatches.

Four MAC Lipsticks For Olive Skin Tones

Four MAC Lipsticks For Olive Skin Tones
Four MAC Lipsticks For Olive Skin Tones
An olive complexion basically has a tinge of green and usually warmer complexions are known for having this but some pale beauties can carry it as well. Olive itself can be classed as an overtone and many a times people with this skin tone experience ashiness. Anyways, now that you know what I mean by olive, I would like to point out that I myself have this skin tone and a lot of Pakistanis and Indians do too. So for the longest of time I hated lipsticks because I never got around trying any that suited me.

Wet n Wild Hollywood Boulevard and Cherry Picking Review and Swatches

Wet n Wild Hollywood Boulevard and Cherry Picking Review and Swatches

Wet n Wild is one of the few drugstore/highstreet brands that actually carry good quality products for remarkably affordable price tags. I remember my earliest wishlists on the blog consisted of Wet n Wild eyeshadows and while I still haven't gotten around to trying any, I was lucky enough to get my hands on the Hollywood Boulevard highlighter and Cherry Picking lipstick. Even though the packaging might be off both of these products are gems for the pricing and you will find out why.

Hollywood Boulevard - To Reflect Shimmer Palette from the Fergie Centerstage Collection

This gorgeous baked highlight with streaks of pink and brown is something that I had been lusting after since Fashion Pakistan Week last December. I saw it on somebody I met during that time and immediately gave my heart away. It looked so stunning throughout the night and I was told by its charming wearer that Hollywood Boulevard is supposed to be a dupe of the infamous Becca Champagne Pop. What else was left to even say then? Wet n Wild is not a brand that is sold in stores in Pakistan so after a tireless hunt, I was finally able to get this from Indelath on Facebook. This brings us onto the packaging as the piece I bought was on sale because the product inside had shattered but the seller had been able to press it back in with rubbing alcohol. The plastic compact is huge, chunky and flimsy but you get enough highlighter to last you a lifetime.

DIY Instant Colour Switching Brush Cleaner

DIY Instant Colour Switching Brush Cleaner

Most of us do not keep multiple brushes for the same purpose and this can be sometimes problematic when you need that very brush for another colour. This particularly happens when it comes to eyeshadow brushes as that is when extreme colour switching is required as opposed to a foundation or blush brush. So, months ago I saw some YouTubers using a color switch sponge thingie for instantly cleaning their brushes and picking another colour. Later on, I noticed that my bun donut seems to have the same nylon strand mesh and that is when I got the idea for this DIY.

Bye Bye Dark Circles - NYX Dark Circle Concealer

NYX Dark Circle Concealer Review and Swatches
NYX Dark Circle Concealer
Working until wee hours and daily sun exposure are the worst things that I put my skin through. Both of these leave me dehydrated and the latter irritates leading to inflammation, patchiness and uneven skin tone. Therefore, I have been forever on a lookout for a product like NYX Dark Circle Concealer which is not too heavy on the pocket and at the same time covers up my intense dark circles and discolourations effectively without being cakey.

How To Keep Your Makeup Organised - 3 Effective Ways

How To Keep Your Makeup Organised

I don't have a huge makeup collection but I do have enough now that it gets difficult to keep track of everything I own. Of course, I want to make sure that I am using the things in my stash from time to time or else they would just collect dust and eventually go bad without getting the love they deserve. In order to do that, I have found three effective ways which prevent my makeup from going to waste.

1. Declutter

This is something that I do every 4 to 5 months by going through all my makeup products and checking what I have not used in a long time. At first, it is a bit tough to let go of some of the things because makeup lovers have sentiments attached to what they buy or as a blogger things that were sent very early on since they symbolise achievement. However, you are nothing more than a hoarder if you don't use what you have and still let it consume space. So, I pass on stuff like blushers and lipsticks that I know my cousins would love and bin stuff like eye pencils and mascaras.

Decluttering is quite satisfying and every time I do this it refreshes my mind as a cluttered stash can be very uninspiring.

Makeup Revolution I Heart Chocolate Palette Review and Swatches

Makeup Revolution I Heart Chocolate Palette
Makeup Revolution I Heart Chocolate Palette
Post Contains Affiliate Links*
Like I mentioned in yesterday's Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner post that I do not wear eyeshadows on a daily basis, however, Makeup Revolution I Heart Chocolate Wonder Palette is the one that I have had for over a year now and this is what I find myself using a lot for warm toned neutral looks. The brand itself is known for producing affordable knock-offs of high-end makeup products and this one from I ❤ Makeup range is a dupe for Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette. I have tried numerous products from Makeup Revolution and I appreciate its quality for the pricing. As much as I would love to try Too Faced too, it is not available in Pakistan and you have to rely on Facebook sellers which also leads to a further hike in prices.

Starting with the packaging of this I Heart Chocolate Palette, I absolutely love the melted, trickling chocolate design and I find it to be cuter than Too Faced. The casing is made out of plastic but it is sturdy and slender enough to be travel-friendly.  The palette contains 16 eyeshadows, out of which 6 shades are matte and the rest are shimmery with a satin finish but some have noticeable glitter particles too. Since the shades are mostly neutral, this is the only palette I have travelled with in the past but I just wish it had a black as well because then this would have been perfect.

Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner in Noir Black Review

Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner in Noir Black Review
Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner in Noir Black
About ten years ago, I started wearing liquid eyeliners and for nearly past four years my go-to makeup look has to have a winged liner. It does not only look put together but is also a lot easier than slapping on eyeshadow everyday. A good wing just works with everything. So since I wear eyeliner so often I need to have a long lasting one and you know gel liners are all the rage for that.

Back in the day, I had one from Catrice but sadly it was dried out. After seeing Jaclyn Hill, the YouTube beauty guru, rave on and on about Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner forever, six months ago I finally caved and bought one in Noir Black. The only reason I put it off for this long was that this gel liner has a reputation of drying out in the pot pretty soon so I didn't want my money to go to waste. Luckily, the formulation has been improved and this little baby survived the extremely cold weather in Lahore which I was really scared that it wouldn't. Even now it is doing quite well and while I do feel that the top layer is not as smooth as it was when I first got it if I dig in deeper it is still buttery soft and works either way. This liner comes in a glass pot and I store it upside down after securing the metal cap to slow down the drying process even more.

Dabbling Into Cream Contouring With L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer

L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer Beautiful Bronze
L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer in Beautiful Bronze
I think for most of us, the earliest memories of crazy cream contouring goes back to Kim Kardashian and love them or hate them, the Kardashian/Jenner clan has been one of the most influential celebrities when it comes to makeup trends. A lot of people prefer powders over creams and liquids, especially during summer because of the hot, humid weather that melts just about everything. However, if you want your makeup to last, just powders won't cut it for you so that is when it is advised to start with a cream base and layer it with powder.

I personally have dry/combination skin so I love using liquids and creams when it comes to makeup but I agree I do need to powder hardcore during this time of the year because of the sweat dripping season. L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealers have been quite popular lately as the brand has a wide range to choose from for all skin types. They have one of the most sought after colour correctors and concealers. The latter of which are often seen used for cream contouring.

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Gemini Review and Swatches

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Gemini Review and Swatches
Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Gemini
For the past month, I have been obsessed with the YouTube makeup guru, Jeffree Star, and all of a sudden my best friend bought me this Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Gemini as a birthday gift. My own zodiac sign is Gemini and I was so ecstatic to receive this because if you have been around for long enough, you would know that that I love dusty rose nude shades on myself.

I don't even know where to begin with this review but I have been singing praises ever since on my social media and constantly telling my friends that they need to get it. I have tried a few liquid lipstick brands previously and for the most part, I do not gravitate towards any of them. However, the minute Jeffree Star Gemini touched my lips, I fell in love and I do not take it lightly when I say it has been a life-changing experience, at least when it comes to liquid lipsticks.

Five Holy Grail Sigma Brushes

Five Holy Grail Sigma Brushes
Sigma Beauty Products
This post contains PR Samples* and Affiliate* links.
One of the wisest decisions I ever made was to invest in good makeup brushes even before I began building my makeup collection. While I do want to try out various brands that people talk about just for the sake of it, I do not really feel the need to buy a whole new set of makeup brushes because my Sigma Beauty ones keep me covered. If you are somebody who is just starting out and want to invest in good quality brushes, I would suggest you get a Sigma Beauty Essential Kit because this is what I got when I started out and it pretty much has all the essentials in travel size version. The only brush I bought separately is my all time favourite F84 Angled Kabuki brush for a smooth foundation coverage.

Now I am a Sigma Beauty affiliate so I do have some brushes that were sent to me and I love them just as much. In today's post, I am sharing with you guys five of my holy grail, most used brushes from Sigma, and if you want to pick up key brushes from the brand, then check these out. Obviously, I wouldn't say that this is just it but I have been reaching out for these a lot lately so I thought I would share.

Monochrome Apparel ft. Bunny Ears, Kitty Ring, Airplane Studs | Born Pretty

Monochrome Outfit styled with Born Pretty Accessories

Getting down to the basics, everybody needs some staple monochrome pieces in their wardrobe as when in doubt, just wing it. Black and white, always work and you can either dress these up to make a statement or dress them down for a laid back look. So, using Born Pretty accessories I have put together an outfit which is effortless but still gives the impression that you tried.

For this look, I styled my basic black button-down shirt and slim fit white jeans from Stone Age with bunny ears bowknot headband, a silver cat paw ring and silver aeroplane studs, all of which I got from Born Pretty Store. If you are feeling bold, do the gold, but I aimed for a more casual look and did not want to go all matchy-matchy with more black and white either so silver was the best choice.

In The Heart of Inspiration - An Evening Tea With Shireen Maqsood

Sunday, 12 June 2016

Shireen Talat Masood reading a chapter from her book to us.
My father has always said that the company he best enjoys is of people who are much senior to him. Over the years, just like everyone says, I have come to believe that I am a reflection of my dad.

When I was invited over for tea by two respectable ladies that I look up to, Eram Masood and Maliha Rao, I was not fully aware of the subject of the evening but of course, I had to be there. As expected, it turned out to be a delightful evening and today's post is dedicated to our wonderful hostess, Shireen Maqsood who stole my heart with her grace the minute she walked in and it just got better by the hour.

Thermal Highlighting - It's Time For A Crazy Summer Glow

Saturday, 11 June 2016

Thermal Highlighting

I was on my Instagram a few days back when I came across a stunning photograph of a girl with an electric blue highlight in the popular feed. So I got to know that "Thermal Highlighting/Strobing" is now a thing but I haven't still seen much of it thereafter. A lot of crazy highlight trends have been catching on lately, summer is the season to glow. We have witnessed rainbow highlight, we have seen Jeffree Star flipping out unusual highlight shades, and now here is a new one on the block which I find extremely cool.

The idea of thermal highlighting is an adaptation of temperature charts and I have seen people do it on just one side of the face so it is more of a photography thing than something you would wear out in stark daylight and. Hence, to capture the full effect of this highlighting technique, photos are taken in dimly lit settings and it is obvious that a lot of tweaking is done with editing software as some photos look too "electrically charged" to be just makeup.

Still On My Mind - The Best of Fashion Pakistan Week

Friday, 3 June 2016

A couple months later, the Fashion Pakistan Week collections that I still think about have to be the most impactful ones, right? Without looking back at photos or cheating at all, the top three on my mind are Kirigami by Nida Azwer Atelier, Bank Alfalah Rising Talent: Uzair Sardar of AIFD, and I am Karachi by Gulabo in this very order.

This year I have been more focused on innovation when it comes to Fashion because otherwise we are seeing a lot of old styles making a comeback. What do you reckon?
