Chinese Food Festival at Dynasty, Avari Towers
Chinese new year starts this Saturday and in its celebration Dynasty, which is a Chinese restaurant at Avari Towers, is holding a food festival. So today, I along with a few other fellow bloggers was invited for another menu tasting. I like how these food festivals are developing my taste buds for a variety of flavours that I would not have dared to try otherwise being a picky eater.

Chinese cuisine does involve a lot of seafood and numerous meat options but this time there still is not anything unusual like the snail I had at French Food Festival. For some reason, most of us had it in our minds that authentic Chinese food is mostly raw, however, that was not the case today. In fact, we were told that meat, in particular, is preferred to be beyond done and I guess that's what most of us here do too in order to kill the bacteria (and protein too). So most of the dishes had fully cooked meat and some of the seafood options were steamed or boiled.

Turkish Food Festival at Asia Live, Avari Towers
You guys know that I have been enjoying the food festivals held at Asia Live, Avari Towers nearly every month or so. As a result, I feel lucky to have been able to try cuisines from so many diverse cultures and countries in such a short span of time. This happens to be the week of Turkish Food Festival at the restaurant and I must say this has to be one of my favourites so far. I am sure a lot of us would agree that we only got to know more about Turkish culture once the country's drama serials hit the national television. Sure, some people did not agree with the idea, but I personally think it was a great exposure for us and I really enjoyed some of the novel based dramas, Ask-i Memnu, better known as Ishq-e-Mamnoon in Urdu, being my favourite. I am not going to defend why I loved it, but you can read my thoughts on it here.

So the reason why I say that the Turkish Food Festival has to be the best one yet is because Turkish cuisine has a good balance when it comes to seasoning and spices. The food was neither bland nor too hot, and therefore, I felt there was something to suit everybody's taste. There were even a couple of dishes that were a bit salty. All of the food festivals at Avari are really extensive when it comes to the menu so you are bound to get a good idea of food from different parts of the country. Turkey is a country rich in history but at the same time it is known for being modern and I feel that translates well into its cuisine.

The Body Shop British Rose Exfoliating Gel Body Scrub Review

The Body Shop British Rose Exfoliating Gel Body Scrub
The Body Shop British Rose Exfoliating Gel Body Scrub*
I am still not quite over the amazing releases that The Body Shop came out with last year. There are one too many ranges that caught my eye but I only managed to grab a few and this exfoliating gel body scrub was one of them from the British Rose range. I am really into skincare be it for face or body so I wanted to try an actual body scrub rather than using a facial one from Freeman or St. Ives on my body as I previously was.

I have resorted to a simpler skincare routine now but I bought this scrub last year for Mother's Day. Honestly, at that time I was still pretty much a gritty scrub gal and this, on the other hand, is a lot gentler because of the gel formulation. So I thought this would be better for my mom as she has pretty soft skin already. Besides, I had never seen a gel body scrub before and it looked so pretty and smelled so lovely that I could not resist getting it. Now, perks of living with your parents include sharing products so yes, I have been using this too.

As the saying goes, 'the eyes are the window to your soul', I couldn't agree more. I am somebody who is not always patient to blend 45 eyeshadows onto my lids and I rather prefer a flicked eyeliner with loads of mascara and even false lashes. I believe if you play up your eyes well it is a really great way of drawing away attention from blemishes or lesser celebrated features. However, there are days when you do not have time for any of that and unless you are blessed with a beautiful set of full lashes naturally, you would want to take better care of them.

Based On Trends Winter Wishlist For 2017

Based On Trends Winter Wishlist For 2017
It is finally getting chilly in Karachi and this morning I felt that it is about time I should go into hibernation. Too bad that is not an option, however, layering fashionable winter clothing is a great way of not only warming up the body but soul too, right? Towards the end of 2016, I came across a lot of cute winter outfits and they are surely stylish enough to transition with us into 2017. So my wishlist is based on everything that I find trendy this season. It mostly comprises of jackets and cardigans but I have included some accessories too. Fashion this year will continue to be a revival of outfits from decades ago but the best part is you can carry them as they are or add a funky twist. This is the age where everything is accepted and appreciated.

Menu Tasting at House of Wings

House of Wings
House of Wings
What better way to start the new year than talking about food? Yesterday I had the opportunity of trying out the menu at House of Wings and boy, it surpassed my expectations as there was much more to savour than wings. House of Wings is a new double story restaurant in Khadda Market that has a total capacity of 44 seats and offers an extensive variety of American cuisine. So if you are looking for something more than just burgers and fries, you are in for a treat.

First, we were given a tour around the restaurant and while it is not the most spacious one out there, it is still cosy and properly facilitated. The kitchen again is tight but open and squeaky clean. I like the current black and yellow theme they have going on with the cushions but since the place has not yet had an official opening, there are still things that they plan on switching up. Nonetheless, the overall ambiance is fit for fine dining and I am glad it is not just another cafe. Also, only other than most of the vegetables, chicken and bread, everything else is imported to maintain the authenticity of each dish.
